When I first started down the path of Astrophotography, I read and tried a lot of different ways to stack the image/frames I generated with my telescope and camera. It seemed like a lot of people were talking about having free software for every step they took. When I ran across some photos processed using PixInsight, my life and direction changed for the better. In my last preprocessing blog, I showed how to use the Blink Tool in PixInsight to remove bad frames before stacking and processing.
In this tutorial, I show how to use the Weighted Batch Processing tool to stack your images.
To open and use the WBPP tool in PixInsight, click on script in the top toolbar. Then click on Batch Processing, followed by WeightedBatchProcessing. Even though you should always have Bias, Darks and Flat frames, it is not a requirement. With that said, these calibration frames are the difference between a picture you took and a stunning image of the heavens. In future video’s I will show how to make master Dark, Flat and Bias frames that you can use for every image you stack.
This script will preprocess, register and integrate your images in a single shot.
