If you use a mount to steady your telescope, you need to turn tracking off. I use CPWI so it is simple to turn it off under the Telescope menu item. Once you slew to the artificial stars you simply move your view out of focus to create the donut. Then simply move the secondary mirror screws until the donut is perfect.
